How to Add Homeschool Hall to Your Home Screen

While our plan is to create Android & iOS apps, for now there’s a feature built-in to most modern phone/tablet browsers that lets you add Homeschool Hall to your device and use it like an app from the app stores. See below for how to do this on iOS and Android devices.

iPhone/iPad (Safari)

Using the Safari browser on iPhone, you can easily add the Activity Journal to your home screen. Here’s how:

1. Open your Activity Journal in Safari.
2. Tap the ‘Share’ icon from middle of the toolbar at the bottom of your screen (little box with an up arrow).
3. A menu will appear. Tap ‘Add to Home Screen’ from this menu.
4. Enter whatever name you’d like for the icon that you’ll see on the home screen, and leave the link as-is.
5. That’s it! Now you have faster access on your phone to the Activity Journal!

iPhone/iPad (Chrome)

This one is not quite as easy as Safari, but it can be done. (Unfortunately Apple makes things a bit harder for anything Google-related.)

1. Open your Activity Journal in Chrome
2. Tap the ‘Share’ icon at the top-right, next to the Journal URL
3. A menu will appear. Click ‘Copy’ toward the bottom of that menu (you’ll paste this later).
4. On your iPhone Home Screen, open Shortcuts
5. Tap on the + icon and tap Add Action
6. Select ‘Apps’ instead of ‘Categories’
7. Tap Chrome and select ‘Open URLs in Chrome’
8. Tap on the URL section and paste the Journal link from step 3
9. You can ignore any “If, Otherwise, End if” fields if they are displayed
10. Tap the blue configuration icon at the top-right corner (blue circle, 3 lines)
11. Tap ‘Add to Home Screen’
12. Click ‘Add’ at the top-right
13. And you’re all set! The Activity Journal is now an icon on your home screen that you can use just like any other app!

Android (Chrome/Opera)

1. Open your Activity Journal in Chrome
2. Click the 3 vertical dots in the top-right corner
3. Click ‘Add to Home Screen’ toward the bottom (label is just ‘Home Screen’ for Opera)
4. Change the icon name if you’d like
5. Click ‘Add’
6. That’s it! You can now easily visit your Activity Journal just like a Play Store app!
